Can Learning A Game Really Lead To Greater Success, Self Confidence, More Opportunities and
Also Be Fun and Enjoyable?

If you’ve seen the Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit and watched Beth Harmon, the heroine, play Chess, you may wonder “how does she do it?”

She has remarkable grace, courage, confidence and mastery… it’s captivating.  She’s incredibly skilled… savvy… strong… and strategic…  And she can stare down even the worst of her opponents.

She’s empowered.

The truth is, the Beth Harmons of the world aren’t born that way…

They are made…

… through training, discipline, practice… and expert coaching.

I know firsthand, as I lived her life.

As a Twice-Olympian Chess Player, I’ve traveled around the globe, competing in big tournaments, tackling opponents and walking out victorious.

The stakes were high and the rewards were big — national championships, national recognition… and even the Olympics.

In time, I forged my way to success in a world where women weren’t welcome.

I’ve found that chess is both an inner and outer game.

Winning starts in the mind, and then it’s played out on the chess board.

Through the years, I’ve developed the skill set, strategic thinking, mindset and confidence that’s helped me do this…

And I’m here to show you how.

Welcome to the…

Empower Yourself to Win the Game of Chess

Your Journey Begins Now...

Chess is far more than just a game…

It’s a pathway to developing the skill set and mindset you need for success in every area of your life.

The skill set and mindset you’ll develop to win the game of chess will help you thrive in personal leadership, business, relationships and everyday life!

By the end of this program, you’ll not only be proficient in chess… you’ll have amazing personal growth……

And you’ll feel empowered.

You’ll learn how to navigate challenges and adversity with resilience and resourcefulness.

In fact, online chess has become a pandemic coping mechanism, like it was centuries ago offline (Sporting News).

Chess allows you to focus your mind on creative thinking and problem solving, rather than your feelings of anxiety, depression and frustration, which are so common during the pandemic.

You join a community where you get to play a fun, engaging game, while learning a new skill to cope with stress that you can use not just now, but for years to come.

And you’ll learn this and a safe environment of women, with interactive, experiential learning.

You’ll discover how to…

"Chess is the ultimate tool for strategic thinking, character building and personal development. It inspires the search of the best move, the best plan and the most beautiful way forward out of the endless possibilities. It encourages the everlasting aim towards progress, always steering to ignite the flame of victory." -Ivona Jezierska

Iwona Jezierska ur. 2 czerwca 1958 w Bielsku-Białej

I know firsthand, as chess has shaped the course of my life.

It’s given me the skills and mindset to take huge risks… venture far outside my comfort zone…

And face adversity with grace and confidence.

The skills I’ve learned in chess have opened the doors to big opportunities in my career and for personal growth.`

I started playing chess at age eleven in my small native town, Cieszyn, in southern Poland.

My family life was not a happy one, and chess became a coping mechanism that helped me escape emotional pain.

Chess gave me something positive to focus on, where I could direct my energies to think strategically and creatively.

Chess also helped me survive… I learned to read the room like I did a chess board.

I learned how to know when it was safe to move and when to stay put.

By the age of fourteen, when I was given the opportunity to leave my family and find a better path, I took it.

I was invited to go to Warsaw, the capital, as a professional competitor, representing a prestigious Polish chess club “Polonia Warszawa.”

Then, in 1980, in my 20s, I came to the United States and lived in New York City. I was a fish out of water who knew very little English and had few friends or contacts.

All this changed when I started hanging out at Bar Point, a famous chess club in New York City.

It was full of people from Russia and Poland, who spoke my language and like me, loved the game of Chess.

I found my home away from home. I spent many late nights playing some of the best and brightest international chess players in the world and I further refined my skills.

In time, I qualified to be part of the U.S. Women’s Olympic Team.

I had the honor to represent the U.S. in the Dubai and Thessaloniki, Greece Olympic Games, and in numerous other international tournaments. I was a top contender in several U.S. Women’s Chess Championships.

I became a twice-Olympian Chess Player, I’ve traveled around the globe, competing in big tournaments, tackling opponents and walking out victorious.

It wasn’t easy to forge my way to success…

You see, it was a man’s world, and women weren’t welcome.

But with each challenge comes an opportunity…

And now it’s my goal to give other women the skill set, strategic thinking, mindset and confidence that’s helped me be successful both in chess and in life…

About Ivona

ivona chess lessons women

Hi, I’m Ivona Jezierska.

I’m a Women’s FIDE Master, teacher, two-time Olympic chess player and an active player for more than 30 years.

I started playing chess at age eleven in my small native town, Cieszyn, in southern Poland. By the age of fourteen, I was a professional competitor and was brought to Warsaw, the capital, to represent a prestigious Polish chess club, “Polonia Warszawa.”

In 1980, in my 20s, I took the big leap and immigrated to the United States. Here I became a member of the U.S. Women’s Olympic Team.

I played in Greece and in Dubai in 1984 and 1986, respectively, and I was a top contender in several U.S. Women’s Chess Championships.

In the late 1990’s, I developed “Chess4SuccessLA,” a comprehensive chess-learning program that improves intellectual skills and self-esteem.

I’ve since been teaching chess to women and couples and in elementary schools in the Los Angeles area, both in person and online.

My warmth and natural rapport with my students makes learning and playing chess an experience that while challenging, is great fun. The classes stimulates the mind, as you learn strategic thinking, problem solving techniques and tactics that are as important in life as they are on the chessboard.

As a tournament director and organizer, I brings excitement to the classes, events and tournaments I direct, creating an amazing community and a memorable experience for all who attend.

What others are saying...

“Ivona’s passion about chess is infectious, and her style of teaching makes it simple for anyone to learn chess. I never had an interest nor thought I would ever learn chess, but I found myself growing more and more interested the more time I spent with Ivona. We later had her come to our home for private lessons with our entire family. She is very patient and an excellent teacher, and I would highly recommend her for anyone wanting to learn how to play!”

Eydie Grossman
Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations
The UCLA Anderson School

“I can’t say enough about Ivona. Not only is she a wonderful chess teacher, she is a wonderful person. Taking chess from Ivona enriched my son’s school experiences. I always admired Ivona. It felt like she was a family member; warm, loving, but never holding back when there were tough lessons to be learned.

She easily gained respect and admiration from all of her students. Ivona also knew how to make things fun. In addition to being her student, my son attended many of her camps, both at the Jewish American University and at her home. Ivona also created a chess party at our house, inclusive of students and parents alike.

The students played a tournament against the parents, and the students legitimately won! Also Ivona created city-wide tournaments for all of her students from all of her schools to compete against one another on a whole other level. I am grateful for the many years she inspired my son.”

Robin Cottle
Graphic Designer and Jewelry Designer

“I’ve fallen in love with chess, thanks to Ivona and her enthusiastic expertise. Ivona has inspired our whole family, and we are grateful to have her as a teacher and friend.”

Eric S. Miillstein, M.D.

“Ivona is an exceptional chess teacher and also a very kind and patient leader. She started working with my son when he had zero chess experience. Thanks to Ivona, my son is a now a skilled and avid chess lover. Aside from chess lessons, he has also participated in her chess game days and competitions. I attribute much of his love of chess, to Ivona’s approach in teaching and true passion for the game.”

Krista

Owner, Legend of Lido

“Ivona has been not only an amazing chess instructor but also an incredibly positive influence on our son. He started with only a basic understanding of the pieces and how they move and now gets complex chess strategy to the point that he can play with adults and beat them regularly (me included). Ivona has fostered a sense of excitement and curiosity in chess through her teaching — traits which ultimately transcend chess. I could not recommend Ivona more wholeheartedly.”

Dan Handman
Partner, Hirschfeld Kraemer LLP

“Ivona is the kind of wonderful teacher everyone hopes for — deeply knowledgeable, infinitely patient, and a genius at knowing exactly how to balance all the parts of the program that make it such a positive learning experience.”

Nina Shimonovitz
Owner —Translation Bureau

“I have watched Ivona teach chess for years. It’s one thing to be a female chess champion, a huge feat, and another to have the passion to teach in a way that empowers. I’m thrilled Ivona is combining her skills and passion to create her lifelong dream— a program for girls and women.”

Judith Rivin
Licensed Clinical Social Worker

“Ivona is a master at chess and fosters an inclusive and positive environment within which to play the game. By both teaching broad strategies and moves for specific scenarios, Ivona sets you up to succeed at the game. I enjoyed all of my time learning from her and have definitely grown as a chess player in the process.”

Asher Radziner
Brown University student, Class of 2023

“I worked with Ivona for many years and watched her teach hundreds of children to play chess. She can explain chess ideas to students of all levels. Her patient encouragement works wonders! Take my advice and let her teach you this great game.

Jack Peters

former Los Angeles Times chess columnist

“Ivona has so much experience as a Master and internationally top ranking chess player. She creates an environment that isn’t too competitive, yet still encourages kids to do their best and try to win. Her tournaments are always fun and fair – and her lessons are personal and professional. I highly recommend her!”

Mimi Lind

Mom of a 11 year old son

“Ivona has guided my boys through the complexities and fun of playing chess. Attending private lessons and her dynamic camps, they have both developed a fondness for her and for the game. I have Ivona to thank for the development of strategic thinking in my children, a vital skill for them for the now and for the future.”
